Last month i had the uniquely amazing opportunity to enjoy a long weekend in Bend, Oregon at the Tetherow Golf Course, and quickly found out the "Not Your Granddaddy's Golf Course" slogan was a perfect fit for them. In the heart of the resort you'll find the Clubhouse, three unique restaurants, golf academy, event pavilion, fitness facility, pool (featuring cabanas, a café and hot tub) are just steps away. Plus, the Deschutes National Forest is just across the street and offers thousands of acres of outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking, kayaking, fishing and more. I found many reasons to love this place, but here are my three key reasons to give the okay to spend your money here... because come on, none of us have golf course money.
Activities for EVERYONE
While golfing is fun for golfers, those of us that love golfers but not the golfing kinda get left high and dry... literally in the high desert terrain of the Scottish influenced courses. Not Tetherow though! Aside from the bar (where you'll find me), the forest, and the pool, you can hop on a shuttle (included with your stay) and ride into town for a brewery tour or shop the eclectic and unique stores run by the hippies themselves. #MillenialApproved
Good Food and BEER
Coming from the food industry, I take many things that i probably shouldn't into consideration while dining out, and am happy to report that Bend, OR (in general) does pretty good. Going to smaller cities i get worried that i'll have to set aside time to find a place to eat, but this little Oregon town knows whats up. Here's where to eat:
Spork : globally-inspired green-conscious mobile street food
La Magie : Fun bakery with a unique pastry case and wholesome breakfast
Deschutes Brewing : Started in 1988 - AKA the king of Oregon Beer
The Row: Steps away from your room at Tetherow makes it an easy watering hole, try their rotating sour.
Being on a golf course really does slow the pace down a bit. From the golfers outside of your window, to the many pillows (2 kinds) stacked on your bed. The rooms are amazing examples of hospitality with every step of your stay thought out, all the way down to the extra towels and welcome chocolates made especially for them by Goody's Chocolate Company. Even the coffee and creamer came in biodegradable packaging with an option for vegans. (powdered coconut milk, it was bomb) Click through the photos to the right to get a better look.
All in all, you're going to like it here whether you want to or not.
ps... the beds though, the beds. #heaven
