One Island, Many People, All Kauaians

I had the privilege of spending a little over a week soaking up the sun in Kauai last year and completely fell in love. Most of us (on the mainland) grow up with a certain idea of Hawaii based off advertising and a misguided views of the culture. Luckily i moved to Seattle and started working for a company called Marination, a Hawaiian (fusion) food company co-owned by Kamala Saxton (a native to the islands, Oahu specifically). After years of getting to know the food and culture i made my way to paradise and knew right away it would be different and way better than i could ever imagine.

Relax and Unwind...

You can luck out staying on any part of the island but i love #SouthShore. There are plenty of Airbnb spots and hotels, but i stayed at Lawai Beach Resort. One of the oldest condo resorts (timeshare), but still amazingly chic and not to mention...

  • RCI Gold Crown Resort
  • Three swimming pools and spas
  • Beach access and snorkeling across the street
  • Mini golf, tennis court and fitness center on Rooftop
  • BBQ area by the pools, Rooftop deck and garden
  • 2 miles from the famous Poipu Beach Park
  • 1 mile from Spouting Horn Scenic Lookout
  • Shopping and dinning are within minutes of driving (Beach House, Savage Shrimp)
  • Whale watching from the comfort of your lanai (balcony)

When you aren't being lazy on the beach or in your room, you'll probably (or should) be exploring. Years are spent on the islands and there are still new things discovered everyday. An important value for Native Hawaiians and Hawaii locals is the idea of “malama aina” or to care for the land. On Kauai there are a variety of activities visitors can explore to see how Native Hawaiian traditions continue to be used to work the land and how locals today are keeping Hawaii more sustainable for generations to come. Here are some of my recommended activities:

Kauai can get overlooked because of the sparkle that Waikiki and Maui have, but don't let that distract you from that magic that the garden isle has. Filled with tradition, this special place will have you leaving more connected to the ocean, the island, and yourself.

Visit Go Hawaii for more on all the islands and travel via Hawaiian Air for the complete aloha experience!
